Better Barangaroo

As usual, Elizabeth Farrelly's opinion piece is right on the money except for one error - Australians for Sustainable Development do want development at Barangaroo (''Without further Barangaroo ado, here's the chance not to stuff it up'', May 19).

To that end we prepared a ''Better Barangaroo'' plan which was endorsed by 70 of Sydney's most prominent architects, town planners and landscape architects.

A further development of that plan is now under way to be presented to the independent review of Barangaroo recently announced by Brad Hazzard, the new Planning Minister.

This plan develops the possibilities of potential cultural uses associated with a park setting at the northern end of the site linked by road and light rail to the existing Walsh Bay performing arts precinct, which in turn can be connected to the planned light rail along George Street.

As Farrelly quite rightly says, in the new post-Keating era we have the chance to do something befitting what I believe is the world's best city.
