People have spoken, now let's get Barangaroo right |

The people have spoken on behalf of Barangaroo (''Petition forces debate on Barangaroo'', smh.com.au, May 4). A ''people's petition'' of 11,295 signatures has been collected to have Barry O'Farrell honour his promise to bring on a parliamentary debate around the planning and design for the Barangaroo site. When will Lend Lease stop denying its flawed development process and design? The current brief is far too narrow to create something lasting and meaningful for Sydney and the world. The plan should have cultural significance above all. At present, this is a purely commercial venture that projects little true innovation. As Frank Gehry said recently: ''It's more of the same for Sydney.'' This is just not good enough from a $6 billion landmark project. Sydney, you and the world deserve so much better than what's being proposed. How many more signatures do we need to turn this around? Andrew Barnum Erskineville |
