Amazing. Very disturbing (''Minister ran down clock for approvals,'' March 10). David Hutton of Lend Lease believes ''all Sydney would be pleased with Mr Kelly's approvals'' in the sell-off, that is sell-out, of Sydney's invaluable public-owned Barangaroo site. Correction. Sydney would be appalled at this non-transparent sale that appears to have been railroaded by commercial and political imperatives. This approval shows total contempt for building specifications and remediation plans and thus seriously compromises the integrity of this great city. The deeply flawed plan was apparently accepted after ''months of consultations'' but largely ignored recommendations and submissions by the Australian Institute of Architects, the City of Sydney, concerned citizens, businesses and residents. They just don't get it. Perfect plan for Porpoise Spit - wrong for Sydney. Cecile Hunt Paddington |
