OBJECTIVES OF THE BARANGAROO ACTION GROUP
We hope to establish a large membership of local residents and commercial building owners, together with other NSW citizens concerned with effectiveness and probity of State Government planning. We hope to represent this membership base to ensure the following outcomes for Barangaroo:
- Retention of the entire foreshore in public ownership and control. We believe no commercial or privately owned property should encroach within a generous pre-defined distance of the water’s edge.
- An independent comparison of the original award winning design and the Lend Lease solution, to resolve questions of over development, architectural compatibility with adjoining areas of the city, and the architectural merit of the Lend Lease changes to the award winning plan.
- Independent assessment of the environmental issues of the Lend Lease proposal including shading of Pyrmont, Darling Harbour and parts of the city, possible further pollution of the waterway by closing off the entrance to Darling Harbour, water transport congestion into Darling Harbour, transport for Barangaroo in light of the Metro cancellation, and roadway and parking congestion around Barangaroo.
- Public disclosure of likely pollution and all costs and risks associated with de-contamination of the site, excavation and remediation, and demolition and reconstruction of the seawalls.
- Disclosure of the financial aspects of the Lend Lease proposal including the costs of the new pier, the headland and waterways into Barangaroo, to ensure that the project will deliver the best possible financial outcome for the NSW Government and thereby the citizens of NSW.
- A contractual process with Lend Lease and/or other developers so as to give the best possible outcomes for NSW.
